I like to call myself a late bloomer when it comes to adulthood.

After high school, I decided not to go to college. I had my son while I was still young, then my daughter not long after, and spent the next fourteen years just trying to survive. I played housewife to someone who did not value me, worked my ass off at low-paying jobs, and struggled financially more than I ever imagined I would. There were times when I could not even afford cable or Wi-Fi. Looking back, I drank far more than I should have because I did not want to face how unhappy I had become.

Teenage me would have been heartbroken to see the life I had settled for.

The crazy part is that I had always loved computers and technology. By the time I was a full-grown adult, computers and internet access had become everyday necessities, yet I could not afford either one. I knew I wanted something more—not just for myself, but for my children—but I had absolutely no idea where to begin.

The first thing I changed was my mindset about relationships. We are not here to unpack my entire dating history, but I will say this:

Then I made one of the biggest decisions I have ever made. I left my hometown, put the alcohol down, and started over.

That season of my life became a period of reflection. I had to figure out who I was again and, more importantly, who I wanted to become. I knew one thing for certain: I did not want to spend the rest of my life dreading retail jobs or housekeeping. I was tired of waking up every morning to work that drained me.

So I made an investment in myself.

I finally bought the macbook I had wanted for years, and I made sure the Wi-Fi bill was paid every single month, no matter what. Those two things became non-negotiable.

From there, I researched. I studied. I experimented. I failed—a lot.

Ironically, I discovered the career I truly love completely by accident. That one unexpected opportunity set off a chain reaction that changed the direction of my life.

I am still building. I am still learning. I am still making mistakes. But today, I am creating something I never thought I would have: an entire ecosystem of businesses built from the ground up.
